Get Started with Streisand Proxy Client
This guide will walk you step-by-step through your first time using Streisand.
Streisand is a flexible proxy client that lets you add your own proxy/VPN servers and route traffic using powerful rules. It supports many protocols (VLESS/Reality, VMess, Trojan, Shadowsocks, SOCKS, SSH, Hysteria v2, TUIC, WireGuard) and custom DNS. Note: the app itself does not sell a VPN service – you bring your own server or subscription.
Before you start
- A proxy/VPN service account (we recommend Just My Socks for reliability and easy setup). justmysocks.net
- Streisand app installed on your device (iPhone/iPad or Apple-silicon Mac via the App Store).
1) Get a server/subscription (Just My Socks)
- Go to Just My Socks and create an account.
- Purchase a plan (choose a location/throughput that fits your needs).
- Open your service details and copy either the subscription link or the specific node parameters (server, port, password/UUID, etc.). Their portal provides how-to articles in the Knowledgebase. justmysocks.net
Why JMS? It’s a long-running provider offering Shadowsocks/V2Ray-style access and multiple lines, which works well with Streisand’s supported protocols.”
2) Install Streisand
- On iPhone/iPad/Mac (Apple silicon), install from the App Store. Open the app once installed.
3) Add your first server in Streisand
You can add a server in three common ways (use whichever your provider gives you):
- Paste a link/config
- In Streisand, add a new profile and paste the subscription/URI or the JSON config your provider gives you.
- Manual setup
- Choose the protocol (e.g., VLESS/VMess, Shadowsocks, Trojan, WireGuard).
- Fill in Server, Port, ID/Password or Key, Encryption, and any transport options your provider lists.
- (If available) Import/scan
- Some providers give a QR or import file that you can add directly.
Tip: With Just My Socks, pick the node/protocol they recommend for your region (often V2Ray/VMess/VLESS or Shadowsocks). justmysocks.net“
4) Pick routing rules (optional but powerful)
- In Streisand, enable rule-based routing to decide which apps or domains go through the proxy and which go direct (useful for streaming, banking, or local services).
- You can also set custom DNS if your provider recommends one.
5) Connect
- Toggle Connect in Streisand.
- The first time on iOS/macOS, approve the VPN profile prompt.
- Wait for the Connected status.
Verify: Visit an “IP check” site in your browser to confirm your public IP/location has changed.
6) Everyday use
- Leave Streisand running; reconnect with one tap as needed.
- Create multiple profiles (e.g., “Work”, “Streaming”, “Low-latency”) and switch between them.
7) Troubleshooting
- Doesn’t connect? Confirm the protocol and credentials match your provider’s instructions (VMess/VLESS vs Shadowsocks, etc.).
- Slow or unstable? In your provider panel, try a different node/line or check Announcements / Network Status for temporary issues.
- DNS leaks or app can’t reach certain sites? Set a custom DNS or use Streisand’s rules to route only the domains you need.
8) Stay within the rules
Streisand reminds users to bring their own server and follow local laws when using proxy/VPN connections.
